Through our partnership with Bonneville Environmental Foundation, both residents and businesses can take advantage of the Renewable Option Program.
This program allows you to affordably purchase the environmental benefits of wind power generated throughout the Pacific Northwest. BEF’s Green-e Energy Certified Renewable Option RECs represent renewable energy sources from Pacific Northwest projects where clean, zero emission wind energy has been delivered to the North American power grid to replace fossil fuel-based electricity.
Each block of Renewable Option RECs represents the environmental attributes of 100 kilowatt-hours of electricity generated from wind energy facilities throughout the Pacific Northwest.
After you make your purchase, you will continue to receive your Cowlitz PUD power bill. BEF will charge you a modest fee for your Renewable Option REC purchase and will deliver you proof of purchase identifying your specific product supply by email.
What does it cost?
The Renewable Option RECs are priced at $1.50 per block (1 block is 100 kilowatt-hours). The average household uses about 1,000 kilowatt-hours of electricity per month. That means that for about $15.00 per month* (in addition to your regular power bill from your utility) you can receive the benefits of clean wind power.
For your convenience, you can pay for your Renewable Option RECs on the BEF online store in a singe annual payment, 12 monthly payments, or four quarterly payments.
Your commitment – combined with the commitments of businesses and other individuals like you – provides a critical funding source to get renewable wind energy projects off the ground.
*Based on the average sized U.S. household, which uses approximately 1,000 kWh of electricity per month.
